But the agency said it\u2019s too early for any definitive conclusion.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm7qh8yku00033b6mn4nzgezd@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Doctors are investigating more than 1,000 illnesses that emerged since late January in five villages in Congo\u2019s Equateur province, where high rates of malaria have complicated efforts to diagnose the cases and where officials have said they\u2019ve been unable so far to confirm the main cause.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm7qh8yku00043b6m2mjy9njd@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            WHO emergencies chief Dr. Michael Ryan said during an online briefing Friday that for one of the villages there is \u201ca very strong level of suspicion of a poisoning event related to the poisoning of a water source.\u201d    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm7qh8yku00053b6m0t6zpprq@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Ryan did not clarify whether he was referring to contamination by accident, negligence or deliberate action. He also did not identify the village where the poisoning was suspected.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm7qh8xfn00013b6mvwflkbic@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            \u201cWe will not stop investigating until we are sure that the true cause or the absolute cause of what is occurring here is fully investigated,\u201d<strong> <\/strong>Ryan said.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm7qh8yku00063b6muwpccet2@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Illnesses were first detected in late January in the village of Boloko after three children ate a bat and died within 48 hours.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm7qh8yku00073b6mjeutq9ek@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Twelve cases and eight deaths in total have been recorded in Boloko, with no new cases recorded since January, officials say, adding that nearly half of deaths there occurred within hours of the onset of symptoms.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm7qh8yku00083b6mx12d1ac3@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            The village of Bomate in Basankusu health zone, around 200 kilometers (125 miles) from Boloko, has been hit the most: 98% of the cases and 86% of deaths have been recorded there, health officials say.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm7qh8yku00093b6m74lz1so1@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            WHO said on Thursday that hundreds of the patients have tested positive for malaria, which is common in the region.
